The Saturday Evening Party for our Ten Year Anniversary Party features a Battle of the Bands with Track Town Swing home team The Stealin’ Apples facing off with Portland-based Rhythm Wrecker Dance Band.
The Stealin’ Apples is pianist Shane Allen’s love letter to classic, rowdy, four-on-the-floor swing dance music.
Since the age of 16, Shane has been a gigging musician and dedicated student of the jazz tradition, blessed with the opportunity to learn from modern giants (Robert Glasper, Ethan Iverson) as well as classic masters (Sebastian Whitaker, Dennis Dotson).
After graduating from the acclaimed jazz program at Houston, TX’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts, Shane was a four-year staple member of St. Olaf College’s top jazz band, which won Downbeat Magazine’s Best Large Ensemble award in 2011.
Since graduating, he has worked as a modern/ballet dance accompanist, played for lindy hop house parties in Minneapolis, and haunted the many late night jams at Herräng Dance Camp.

Since moving to Eugene, OR in 2018, he has led two groups, The Stealin’ Apples and Stomp Off Party, connecting world-class players of the Willamette Valley with lindy hoppers’ passion for swing-era dance music.
The Rhythm Wrecker Dance Band is a Portland, OR based swing band led by drummer, swing dancer, and organizer Eddie Montejo. Formed by dancers and for dancers, the Rhythm Wrecker Dance Band plays solid, four-to-the bar swing with a commitment to making danceable music for lindy hop.
The band is inspired by the vintage sounds of Lionel Hampton, Louis Jordan, and Jimmie Lunceford with an emphasis on the brief but sweet 1940’s “transition-era” sound that blended big band swing, jump blues, and vintage rock n’ roll.
The band pays loving tribute to the masterful Black and African American bandleaders and musicians of the time with adapted arrangements of well-known classics and lesser-known cuts like “Johnny Come Lately” (Ellington/Strayhorn), “Duck Fever” (Fred Jackson), and “I’m Rhythm Crazy Now (Fletcher Henderson).
